A thriving wetland in the summer and fall and a six mile shallow lake in the springtime, the Basha Kill is home to 200 species of birds. Thirty varieties of fish include the prehistoric Bowfin. This area a nature lover's paradise. Usefull links are at:

Trails Overview:

The Shawungunk Ridge Trail (Aqua) hugs the easter shore of the lake and the red blazed former D&H Canal tow path can be followed on the west.

The New York/New Jersey Trail Conference provides a free map of the SRT. The Bashakill can be found in the middle section.

Directions:

From New York Route 17 use exit 113 to take New York Route 209 south toward Port Jervis. When you see the Moose Lodge on your left, make a left turn onto Haven Road, where there are some parking spots. Other parking areas are marked on the above map.
