This forest has grown and it didn't exist at all 10 years ago. It is located in the southern-most section of the Shawangunk Ridge, near the New York-New Jersey-Pennsylvania border.

Park Description:

This state forest, in and around Port Jervis, has now grown to 1,096 acres. The additional land was transferred to New York State from the NY/NJ Trail Conference. The total protected public land within the state forest to 1,510 acres. Camping is allowed as long as you are 150 feet away from any road, trail or
water source.

Trails Overview:

The Shawangunk Ridge Trail hugs the eastern edge of this forest. It can be viewed at the free trail map for the Shawangunk Ridge Trail in the southern section of the map.

Three hiking trails can be found in the Huckleberry Ridge State Forest -- the Shawangunk Ridge Trail, Lenape Ridge Trail and Minisink Trail. The state forest and NYNJTC land can be found both north and south of I-84.  For a detailed hike description link to "Find a Hike" and scroll down the name of this park.

Directions:

Parking is available at the end of Hawthorn Boulevard in Greenville New York.

Parking is also available along route 6 at the Deerpark - Greenville town
line. The trail head for the Minisink Trail leaves from this location.

Public Transportation: Take NJ Transit's Main/Bergen Line to the Port Jervis station. From the station, take the Delaware River Heritage Trail for about two miles to the Route 6 bridge over the Neversink River. Near a DRHT historic sign on the west bank of the river, look for three white blazes on a telephone pole, indicating the trailhead of the Lenape Ridge Trail. Follow the trail across the bridge, then turn left onto Minisink Avenue; the trail follows this road for about half a mile until it enters the woods on the left.
