Park Description:

In 1998 a coalition of 35 groups representing homeowners, the community, government agencies and several environmental organizations united to preserve this site, which had twice been threatened by development. In 2000 The Scenic Hudson Land Trust and Westchester County raised $6 million to buy the parcel.

Woodlands, streams, steep slopes, bedrock outcroppings and meadows reveal much human and natural history and provide spectacular natural views. It is on one of country's three major bird migration corridors.

Trails Overview:

There are many meandering woods roads througout the park. Stay on marked trails to avoid getting lost.

  • The Annsville Creek Trail (Red blaze, 1.0 mile) starts at the Doris Lee Drive parking area and is universally accesible to the pond overlook.
  • A steep accent through a meadow and a mixed hardwood forest brings the Upland Trail (Blue blaze, 2.0 miles) to an excellent view of the Hudson River.
  • The Hudson Overlook Trail (Yellow blaze, 0.6 mile) crosses a small stream and is distinguished by its scenic overlook.
  • The Vernal Pond Trail (White blaze, 1.6 miles) and loops from the northermost point of the Upland Trail and traverses a ridge passes a large vernal pool and wetlands.
Directions:
  • The main parking area is located 0.3 miles from the intersection of Sprout Brook Road and Highland Avenue in Annsville, NY, just past and on the same side as the athletic fields. Cross the road and enter Hudson Highlands Gateway Park through the gap in the guard rail.
  • An accessible parking area is located at the end of Doris Lee Drive.
