Trail U 553 - Stonework for Trail Work
This course will focus on the basics of stone construction for trail work. Students will learn how to set stones, construct basic stone crib/retaining walls, and install rock steps to help prevent erosion on steeply graded trails. Topics covered include how to set a base tier, achieve solid points of contact, avoid running joints, and proper backfilling. Students will be using mostly rock bars, pick mattocks and mash hammers, utilizing native fieldstone as a building material.
