Trail users have long been curious about the stone ruins of a dam and lumber mill in the Neversink Gorge where Wolf Brook empties into the Neversink River.

Join Trail Conference volunteer Nancy Bachana to learn the history of this 1800s logging community known as Hackeldam. Notorious as a wild place of mystery and bear hunters, it also housed small farms, a vineyard, and the 'very fine home' of the local lumber baron.
After the 90-minute half-mile tour (3/4 mile one way), you can continue on the extensive gorge trails to three waterfalls and more views of the Neversink River, or you can return (uphill) to the parking area
Please be aware that there is no cell service, bathrooms, or garbage cans at the trailhead.
