Historic Hike at Neversink Gorge

Registration is closed for this event
Trail users have long been curious about the stone ruins of a dam and lumber mill in the Neversink Gorge where Wolf Brook empties into the Neversink River.

Join Trail Conference volunteer Nancy Bachana to learn the history of this 1800s logging community known as Hackeldam. Notorious as a wild place of mystery and bear hunters, it also housed small farms, a vineyard, and the 'very fine home' of the local lumber baron.

Please register to hike through history on Saturday, September 25 at 10am. After the 2-hour half-mile tour, you can continue on the extensive gorge trails to three waterfalls and more views of the Neversink River.

Please read our COVID-19 Protocols and be prepared to practice them during the hike. Please be aware that there is no cell service, bathrooms, or garbage cans at the trailhead. The beginning of the hike is a moderate descent with some loose stones so we recommend walking sticks for participants who’d like more stability.
