Looking for a fun and interesting weekend project? Join the Catskills Lean-to Crew at the Crew Chief Eric Friedman's shop for some privy prefabrication to be later used in the Catskills Preserve.
NY-NJ Trail Conference Catskills Lean-to Crew Leader Eric Friedman will be leading a
Privy Pre-fabrication Project at Eric’s house and shop. We need to make 3 regular privies and 1 larger ADA / accessible privy, for this year’s projects. The privies will be located at Kelly Hollow, Quick Pond and Trout Pond, in the western Catskills, later this year.
WHEN: June 16 - June 18. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Those coming on Saturday or Sunday are encouraged to meet at 9am.. The meeting time may be adjusted due to volunteer circumstances. You can either come for the day or camp in Eric’s back yard, at the foot of the Shawangunk Mts. to make a fun volunteer trip out of the experience!
WHERE: 77 Mountain Rd., Rosendale NY (between New Paltz and Kingston)
WHAT WE’LL BE DOING:
- Privy plans will be drawn up
- Materials will be on site Friday or before. Work could begin in a staggered fashion on Friday, or we could all start together on Saturday morning, finishing up on Sunday as needed. The privies will be disassembled, stained and stored in pieces.
-- Volunteer teams of 2-3 will work on their own project, to completion. Instruction provided by me, or another experienced carpenter.
CAMPING: in my backyard is an option, at the foot of the Shawangunk Mts. (literally)
Evenings - on your own, or together. Sailing on my small boat in the Hudson is an option. Enjoy the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, right from my backyard, find a swimming hole or a local restaurant.
WHAT TO BRING: Lunch and snacks, sturdy shoes, water, safety glasses, gloves, bug dope. Many tools will be provided. You can bring some of your own. Tools needed include hammer, tape, pencils, square, knife, drill / driver, saw etc.
. If you’ll be spending the night, bring your necessary overnight gear and food. For those staying over, we do a combination of shared and individual food. Eric’s kitchen and bathroom will be available for use
