Didn't spread thanks to everybody

Letter to the Editor:

Dear editor,

In Jon Sherwood's letter on Friday, May 7, he's "spreading the thanks around." However, he neglects to mention the volunteer group that created and maintain most, if not all, of the trails where he enjoys hiking, skiing and snowshoeing.

That group is the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, celebrating 90 years of working with public partners to make open space enjoyable to all.

Since 1920, Trail Conference volunteers have created and now maintain over 1,700 miles of trails, including over 100 miles in West Milford: Ringwood State Park, Wawayanda State Park and the Newark Watershed.

Additionally, Trail Conference volunteers create maps and an online database of hikes so anyone can explore these trails. This summer, Trail Conference volunteers will assist the West Milford Environmental Commission to erect informational kiosks at trailheads throughout West Milford.

So when thanks are spread around, a great deal should go to those hardworking volunteers of the NY-NJ Trail Conference.

Edward K. Goodell, Executive Director, New York-New Jersey Trail Conference
