State Parks Use Up 17% over Memorial Day Weekend

Body

New York State Parks had 1.7 million visitors over Memorial Day weekend, a 17% increase from Memorial Day weekend 2009.

According to State Parks Commissioner Carol Ash, Parks had over 245,000 new visitors. This year 91% of the park system's campsites and cabins were occupied over the weekend, up from 88% last Memorial Day.

With all the impending closures, Ash is happy to see that residents were out visiting the parks they worked hard to save.

"A strong holiday attendance is proof that New Yorkers love their State Parks," Ash said. "I'm happy that the citizens across the state who have been expressing their support for State Parks are getting out and enjoying them. All of our magnificent park are open, and I encourage all New Yorkers to fully enjoy all that our state parks have to offer."
