Park Description:

Perched on a hillside overlooking Spruce Run Reservoir, this 97-acre Hunterdon County Park is named for the ironworks that flourished nearby from 1742 to 1781 [the actual site of the furnace was flooded by the reservoir].
Trails Overview:

An 0.9-mile section of the Highlands Trail [teal diamond] passes through the preserve.  The trailhead begins on the north side of Van Syckels Road, opposite the parking area.  The remaining trails consist of overgrown woods roads that are not easily navigated due to the dense vegetation and hills terrain.  For a trail map click on the preserve's web page in Contact Information below, follow the "Park Brochures and Maps" link to the park [Union Furnace Nature Preserve is  #5] 
Directions:

Take I-78 West to Exit 17 [Clinton] and proceed north on NJ 31 for 3.0 miles to the traffic light at Van Syclels Road.  Make a left at the light.  Park's webpage has directions from various  locations.
