Habitat Helper Gardening Leader

The Trail Conference is seeking volunteers who are interested in helping lead Habitat Helper workdays at our native plant garden in Mahwah, NJ.

The native garden, located at the Trail Conference headquarters is maintained by a group of gardening volunteers known as the Habitat Helpers. The volunteers meet every other Sunday from early Spring to early Fall to preserve the native garden through invasive species identification and management. These workdays are a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in a native garden. 

We’re looking for support for this upcoming season from volunteers who want to help lead the workdays. The general requirements / duties of the position are:

--Passionate volunteer leader committed to preserving and maintaining our native species garden surrounding the historic Darlington Schoolhouse in Mahwah, NJ

--Prefer individuals with a knowledge of native gardens, invasive species management, gardening, landscaping, and/or related science fields. However, no experience is necessary. Training will be provided based on your level of experience.

--Lead Habitat Helper workdays 1 or 2 times a month. The group size varies depending on the time of year. On average, there are 3 to 5 volunteers, sometimes more. The workdays are held from 9AM to 12PM on Sunday mornings. The days and hours are flexible depending on your availability. 

--Basic computer skills such as email correspondence with fellow volunteer leaders and Habitat Helper workday volunteers.

--Preparation of workday summary, collection of volunteer hours, sign-in sheets, and submission to the Trail Conference volunteer team.
